Netherlands and Senegal qualify for World Cup last-16 as England learn potential opponents

England will face either Netherlands or Senegal in the World Cup round of 16 if they secure qualification from Group B in their final group stage encounter against Wales on Tuesday evening. Goals from Cody Gakpo and Frenkie De Jong sent the Netherlands through as group-winners with a 2-0 victory over Qatar, while Chelsea star Kalidou Koulibaly struck the winner for Senegal that sees them advances as runners-up ahead of Ecuador.

Following England's draw with the USA and Iran's win over Wales in matchday two, all four teams can still qualify from the group stages, although the Three Lions would have to lose 4-0 to Wales, with one of Iran or USA winning their game to not make it into the round of 16.

The 6-2 win over Iran places Gareth Southgate's side in a great position to qualify top which would mean they meet Group A's runners up Senegal on Sunday, December 4. However, defeat to Wales with Iran or USA winning would see England take on Group A's winners the Netherlands on Saturday, December 3.

Senegal and the Netherlands join France, Portugal and Brazil as the nations who have confirmed their qualification from the group stages, while the remaining 11 spots will be decided over the coming days before the last-16 ties commence from Saturday, December 3.

England vs Wales kicks off at 7pm with the other Group B fixture of Iran against the USA also set to get underway at the same time on Tuesday evening.
