Long before Cyberpunk 2077‘s infamously terrible launch, everyone thought it would bring about another massive franchise with spinoffs galore. Perhaps the brand isn’t as big as CD Projekt Red was hoping, but hey — at least the new anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is looking decent.
On Monday, Netflix announced that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be shown off during Geek Week 2022, from June 6 through June 10. Studio Trigger, the legendary anime company that brought us Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia, is behind this one. Not many plot details out there about this one, other than it’ll be a standalone story set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
Netflix’s Geek Week 2022 got a trailer as well, which contains a few snippets of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners footage. Check it out for yourself below.

If you’d rather not stare at freezeframes, look at the gallery below. As you might expect, the Akira vibes are strong.

Not much we can glean from these, but if nothing else, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners should be gorgeous. Studio Trigger is kind of known for releasing some of the best looking anime series around. Silent Hill Composer Akira Yamaoka is working on this too, so the soundtrack should slap.
The timing is pretty solid too. Cyberpunk 2077 will be part of the PS Plus relaunch, and the expansion is coming next year.
