Netflix viewers 'heartbroken' as streaming service cancels popular supernatural series

Fans have been left furious and devastated after it was announced that Netflix is cancelling fan favourite supernatural series Lockwood & Co after just one season. The popular show featured in Netflix's global top 10s for three weeks between January and February, wracking up 79.91 million watched hours.

Despite Lockwood & Co earning a 92 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and positive critical reviews, production company Complete Fiction broke the sad the news that Netflix will drop the show. The statement read: "With a heavy heart, we announce that Lockwood & Co will not return for a second series.

"To the fans - to Lock Nation - you really have been the greatest. We cannot thank you enough for how much you have embraced, celebrated and loved the show. We are particularly proud of the gifted young actors who brought Jonathan's beloved fictional characters to the screen with such warmth, charm and vulnerability."

The announcement has left fans fuming, with many taking to social media to voice their anger. One Twitter user wrote: "Why do they even bother commissioning new stuff? Lockwood & Co was well liked and had good viewership.

"What do Netflix need to renew a show? Is it literally only the Bridgertons and Stranger Things?" Another said: "So crushing to see such a fantastic show get tossed aside by @netflix but that's the norm for them now."

In reply to Netflix announcing every Harry Potter film will be on the platform from May 17, Lockwood & Co fans urged the streaming platform to renew the series instead. Vxsmxrianne told Netflix: "An idea; renew lockwood & co. and start finishing your series."

A reason for the cancellation has not been given and comes off the back of other high profile shows not being renewed. Back in 2016, Netflix CEO revealed what the company uses when deciding to keep a show on their platform.

He said: "It's 70 percent gut and 30 percent data…Most of it is informed hunches and intuition. Data either reinforces your worst notion or it just supports what you want to do either way."
