Netflix viewers call for trigger warning amid 'violent and graphic' new Mila Kunis film

Netflix viewers have been left shocked by the graphic nature of Mila Kunis’ new film, with many saying the streaming platform should include a clear trigger warning on the drama.

Luckiest Girl Alive follows glamorous writer Ani, who seems to have an enviable life in New York, however when a true-crime documentary probes into the mystery of her school life, Ani’s world begins to unravel.

The question of what she did at high school hangs over the film as her deeply traumatic teen years are peeled away – until viewers learn that she not only survived an horrific school shooting but was a victim of gang rape aged 14.

The film explores victim blaming and Ani’s trauma after her peers and adults refused to believe what happened to her.

After Netflix dropped the film on its platform, the violent rape scenes have been described as ‘incredibly realistic’, but should have come with ‘several trigger warnings’, one Netflix viewer has said on Twitter.

Another penned: “Be careful watching Luckiest Girl Alive. It’s very triggering and may have shown too much of the rape scenes but has an amazing performance by everyone involved.”

A third said that the film “shows a glimpse of what rape victims go through with all the victim blaming, sl*t shaming, the intense trauma afterwards and how pressured the society is to them to just snap out of it and move past it”.

This comes as the streaming giant has landed in hot water over the fifth series of hit show The Crown, which is set for release next month.

Insiders have now claimed that producers have decided to portray Prince Philip pursuing an affair in the new series – just weeks after the nation mourned the Queen’s death.

Prince Philip will reportedly be seen in intimate scenes alongside close friend Penny Knatchbull.

However, the Queen’s former press secretary Dickie Arbiter came out to shut down speculation about their long-time friendship, saying "This is cruel rubbish" that will "hurt people's feelings".

Netflix viewers will see the Duke of Edinburgh, who died in April 2021, pursuing an affair with Penny, who is now the Countess Mountbatten of Burma.

According to TV insiders, the pair are seen touching hands as Philip complains about his marriage with Queen Elizabeth to Penny.

Although Netflix bosses had considered postponing the release of the fifth series, the series will still go ahead and it is set to be released to stream from November 9.
