Netflix's Wednesday could be leaving the platform despite rave reviews

Netflix's Wednesday could be leaving the streaming service despite its runaway success.

The campy teen "horror" was met with rave reviews from fans dying to sink their teeth into another dark adaption from the streaming service. Wednesday follows the gruesome Addams Family daughter as she moves out on her own but is quickly wrapped up in a monster mystery at her new school.

Tim Burton directed the eight-part series with Jenny Ortega playing the lead but despite a stacked production team and floods of viewer and critic support the show may not be returning to Netflix for series two.

The streaming giant has not yet renewed the series because it may be out of its power to do so. Wednesday is a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) product which means Netflix may have to forfeit the show to Amazon Prime if they fail to strike a deal to keep it locked down.

Amazon and MGM closed a £7.06bn merger meaning the rights to Wednesday may be up for grabs, Deadline reported. Amazon has reportedly said it doesn't intend to make all MGM content exclusive to its site but made no clear indication as to which products would and would not be affected.

While Wednesday is yet to be officially renewed for a second series, the show's producers are said to already be on the lookout for new filming locations and sign up writers to work on new episodes.
