Netlfix 's latest true-crime documentary, I Just Killed My Dad, drops today (August 9).
The three part docu-series has been created by the makers of Girl In The Picture and looks at the real story behind Anthony Templet, a teenager who shot and killed his father in 2019.
In a chilling 911 call, Anthony confessed to his father's killing and admitted to shooting him in the head three times.
But there was more to the story, and the documentary explores the context behind the murder as Anthony and his family claim he endured years of mental and physical abuse at the hands of his father, who allegedly abducted him when he was five years old.
While most true crime documentaries rely on the contribution of secondary sources, Anthony makes a rare appearance in the Netflix series himself, as he continues to insist: "I didn't do anything wrong."
Here's where the teen killer is now.
Where is Anthony Templet now?
After being arrested for his father Burt Templet's killing, Anthony was initially charged with second-degree murder.
But the charges were later lowered to manslaughter after his family said that he had acted in self defence.
Last year, Anthony was convicted of negligent homicide, but the now-20-year-old hasn't been spending his time behind bars.
Instead of a jail sentence, Anthony was handed a five-year supervised probation with credit for the time he already served in prison.
Anthony is currently having to work towards getting his high school diploma after the judge added a special condition to his sentence that required him to obtain one during his probation period.
Since his release from custody, Anthony has remained out of the spotlight until recently.
In his first TV appearance since the case came to a close, Anthony has spoken to Netflix for the I Just Killed My Dad documentary and gave his first-hand account of why he killed his father.
Why did Anthony Templet kill his dad?
Anthony maintains he killed his father out of self defence.
During the confessional 911 call, Anthony told an emergency services operator that he had got into a fight with his dad and shot him after being attacked.
Initially, Anthony was seen as a sinister killer, but details that emerged after the killing turned the case on its head.
Anthony's mother and sister claimed that he was abducted by his father when he was five years old, and that they weren't even sure if he was alive.
During the documentary, Anthony revealed that his father tracked his every move.
He says: "I was always being tracked by something, whether it be a camera or mobile app.
“He wanted to be in control of everything, of me and the rest of the family in that house. I knew he was trying to control me.”
He claims to have been both physically and mentally abused by his father for years and that this is what led to the killing.
Anthony's half-sister Natasha only found out he was still alive when news broke of his shocking crime, having not set eyes on him since he was five.
“After 11 years of waiting to hear if my brother was still alive, he is found. He has been secluded and abused all these years by his own father. My brave brother had to defend himself for the last time against that evil man," she told Wafb.com.
“Burt and my mum were together for about ten years and it was extremely violent. I can only imagine what Anthony’s been through. When he was a baby, Burt would hold him in his arms while abusing my mother.”
Anthony's lawyer Jarrett Ambeau, said the teen had been "isolated and regularly abused by his father", adding: "There was definitely regular abuse going on: physical, mental, emotional."
