Heartstopper star Kit Connor has revealed how he made his on-screen mum Olivia Colman cry during rehearsals for the hit Netflix series. The teen LGBTQ+ show is based on the coming-of-age romance novels by Alice Oseman and has become a huge hit with viewers and received a rare 100 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The eight-part series sees secondary school student and drummer Charlie Spring and popular rugby-playing schoolboy Nick Nelson strike up an unlikely friendship which quickly starts to blossom into an unexpected romance. Joe Locke and Kit Connor, who play the pair, joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on the This Morning sofa to talk about the new series.
Kit opened up about the time he'd made his co-star, award-winning actress Olivia Colman who plays his mum in the Netflix series cry during rehearsals for one of their scenes together. "There's this scene where we're talking about my experiences in the show," Kit explained.
"We normally sort of, before every scene, we read it through 50 per cent. We were just reading it through and then suddenly Olivia just started crying and at first I was thinking 'god she's just really good I need to step up my game massively here'.
"I was really worried at that point. So then other people told me afterwards it was just because the scene is so, it's such a beautifully written scene, and like such a crucial part in so many people's lives, I think it just touched her. I was just scared to be honest".
"She's lovely though," Phillip replied and Kit added: "Oh she's absolutely the most lovely person in the world yeah".
Heartstopper is available to stream on Netflix now. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
