Netflix is eliminating nearly 1,000 jobs worldwide, a restructuring that raises questions about the streaming giant's entertainment strategy, including its growing investment in Spanish-language productions and its operations in Latin America and Spain.
The company announced Wednesday, October 14, that it would reduce its workforce by approximately 6%, with layoffs concentrated in its product, technology, legal and human resources divisions. Although Netflix didn't mention cuts to its film and television production teams, the decision comes as the platform continues to compete for audiences through locally produced series, films, and international franchises.
