Leeds United’s gap to the Premier League relegation zone was cut to just six points as Burnley beat Everton 3-2 in one of the games of the season at Turf Moor. In many ways, from a Whites perspective, it was a win-win situation as at least one of the teams below them had to drop points.
Although, had they been given a choice, they would have probably rather have seen the Toffees come away with all three points in order to keep 18th-placed Burnley at arm’s length. As it transpired, Sean Dyche’s side picked up a valuable victory on Wednesday night to drag Everton even further into the relegation mire.
Given the two games in hand that both sides have over the Whites, Leeds’ survival fate remains out of their own hands as a pair of, albeit unlikely, victories for both would see Jesse Marsch’s side move into the bottom three. However, with the form Everton are in, it is hard to imagine they will find the required number of points anytime soon.
