Neighbours star Guy Pearce has revealed that his mum has died following a 13-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
The actor, 55, who launched his career in 1986 playing mechanic Mike Young on the Australian soap and will be reprising his role in the upcoming reboot, shared the sad news of his parent’s passing on social media.
Taking to micro-blogging site X, previously known as Twitter, Pearce shared a series of pictures including snaps of his mum in her youth, on her wedding day, and alongside him and his sister Tracey as adults.
In the accompanying caption, he praised his mum for her “humour” and hailed her as a “sharp, fierce and witty woman” until her Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2010.
Lost my beautiful Mum today. ‘Kicked the bucket’ as she would say. What a sharp, fierce & witty woman Anne was, until Alzheimer’s struck in 2010. It’s been a long & winding road. A fitting song 4 ur departure Mum. Tracy & I will miss u enormously. We’ll always love u XX pic.twitter.com/SfjFWUFRwr

Alzheimer’s is a brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and, eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks.
Pearce, whose other acting credits include the movies The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and The Time Machine, wrote: “Lost my beautiful Mum today. ‘Kicked the bucket’ as she would say. What a sharp, fierce & witty woman Anne was, until Alzheimer’s struck in 2010.
