Residents on a busy town street ran into their homes and shut their doors after witnessing a teenager pull a meat cleaver out on his ex's partner. Shay Pitman, 18, pointed the knife towards Lewis Adams and then swiped it past his face on Bedwas Road in Caerphilly, Cardiff Crown Court heard on Monday.
Mr Adams had been on his way home with a group of friends when he heard his name called by Pitman’s friend, William Bebb, prosecuting, said. When he turned around to see who had called his name, Adams recalled hearing Pitman’s friend say to him: “Are you going to start or something?”
Mr Adams then noticed that Pitman had his hand to his side and was carrying a large kitchen knife with a defined curve at its end - which Mr Adams said he thought was a meat cleaver. Pointing the knife towards him for around 30 seconds, Pitman’s demeanour was such that Mr Adams thought he was going to die during the bizarre incident on July 7 2021, Mr Bebb said.
