People had to be evacuated from their homes after a fire broke out in a Birkenhead laundrette.
Fire crews were alerted at 5pm today, March 1, to reports of smoke coming from L.S Laundry on St Anne Road. Two engines from Birkenhead and Wallasey attended, and arrived at the scene at 5.04pm.
Video footage shared with The ECHO showed firefighters entering the three-storey building equipped with hosereels and protective masks as black smoke poured from the open door.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Crews gained access through the front door with an angle grinder, and a team of two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the building with a hosereel jet and thermal imaging camera.
"The flats directly above where the smoke was issuing were evacuated. The first two firefighters were then joined by two more and they located the fire. The fire was extinguished by 5.41pm.
"All four flats were checked for smoke after being evacuated and a fan was used to ventilate the building."
Two fire engines remained at the scene as of 6.15pm. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
