HANGZHOU: World Championships silver medallist, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem – who was India’s Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra’s main challenger in the men’s javelin throw event at the Asian Games – on Tuesday pulled out from the competition after suffering a knee injury.
An MRI scan done at a local hospital here confirmed the flare-up of Nadeem’s “chronic injury”, which had kept him out of the major part of the athletics season before the Pakistan’s top javelin spearhead made a sensational silver-winning comeback at the Budapest World Championships, finishing behind Neeraj who secured the country’s first-ever gold at the Worlds.
