Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young has been named as a potential trade candidate next summer after reportedly being unhappy with the team's progression and their failure to make a playoff run over the past few seasons.
The Hawks have made the playoffs the last two seasons, making it to the conference finals in 2021, before losing in the first-round to the Miami Heat. But Bleacher Report has suggested that Young could look to be moved if the Hawks continue to struggle, starting this season with a 16-16 record.
Atlanta have struggled in the draft and in free agency, having not found another star player to line-up alongside Young since he was drafted in 2018. The Hawks had hoped they found that in Dejounte Murray, but whilst the former San Antonio Spurs star has done well, it has not transpired to wins for the team.
The Hawks have recently made moves to their board, appointing a new general manager as they hope to build around Young, and work with their star player in hopes of keeping him involved in their moves. Young was said to be a big part in acquiring Murray - a dominant defensive player who should pair well with Young's offensive game.
Young remains under contract with the Hawks after signing an extension that will see him remain until the 2026-27, however he could trigger an early termination a year prior to this.
One player who could be available for them will be DeMar DeRozan, who is expected to ask for a trade away from the Chicago Bulls - who are no longer contending for a championship.
DeRozan remains playing at an elite level despite being on the wrong side of 30, and has almost recreated himself as an efficient three-point shooter and defender.
Hawks forward John Collins has long been linked with a trade, and could bring in a number of assets of a key player in order for the team to make a significant playoff push.
The Celtics have had interest in Collins in the past, and could offer a package with a number of talented players if they feel Collins will help them contend for a ring this season.
