The Guardian and Venice International Film Festival today announce the worldwide premiere of NAZA, a new documentary film directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, produced by the Guardian.

NAZA is the only documentary feature to be invited to the Competition of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The film will receive its world premiere on 10 September.

Shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, the film reveals in detail the systems behind Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

The film is directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, the two Israeli directors of the four co-directors of 2024 Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, and is produced by the Guardian and James Wilson (JW Films) and executive produced by Jonathan Glazer. Wilson and Glazer are the Oscar-winning team behind The Zone of Interest.

It builds on revelations first published by the Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine, Hebrew-language outlet Local Call and The Guardian between 2023 and 2025.

NAZA will also make its North American premiere at the 64th New York Film Festival, which will take place from September 25 through October 12.

NAZA is a Guardian production with JW Films, in association with Placeholder Films and Unseen Hand.

ENDS

Editor’s note: The film’s title – NAZA – is a term that appears throughout the documentary. It is a military acronym euphemistically used by Israeli intelligence to indicate the number of civilians that it expects will be killed in an airstrike.
