Finland is investigating a suspected violation of its airspace by a Russian aircraft over the western Gulf of Finland, raising fresh security concerns along NATO's northern flank as military activity near the alliance's eastern borders continues.
The Finnish Ministry of Defence said the suspected incident occurred on Thursday, 20 August 2026. Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen said authorities were taking the allegation seriously, while the Finnish Border Guard began an investigation into what happened.
