While August 15 is celebrated as the Independence Day of India, this special day also marks the birth anniversary of one of the most important philosopher-sage of the 20th century, Sri Aurobindo. Born on August 15, 1872, he joined India's independence movement from British rule and later became a spiritual guru. This year, August 15, 2022, marks the 150th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo. Thus, in his memory a new book titled 'Reading Sri Aurobindo' will be published on August 22.
'Reading Sri Aurobindo' is edited by academics Gautam Chikermane and Devdip Ganguli and it will be published by Penguin Random House India (PRHI). "The relevance of Sri Aurobindo's message has never been more urgent and compelling, yet, his 'Complete Works', 36 volumes in all, can be a daunting prospect even for those acquainted with his philosophy and practice. 'Reading Sri Aurobindo' introduces each of these volumes through the perspectives of 21 contributors. The result is a book packed with insights inviting us to explore Sri Aurobindo's deep wisdom and vision for resolving the fundamental issues facing individuals, societies, and nations today," reads the book's blurb.
