More than 250 National Guard personnel are currently deployed in 15 states across the United States to provide support on Election Day, as confirmed by a spokesperson on Tuesday.
The National Guard personnel have been mobilized in the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.
According to the spokesperson, slightly less than half of the troops are engaged in cybersecurity missions to ensure the integrity and security of the election process. The remaining personnel are offering assistance based on specific requests from local authorities.
Furthermore, the National Guard Bureau has reported that approximately 85 members are on standby in Colorado, Washington, DC, Florida, and Nevada. This proactive measure was taken over the weekend in anticipation of potential civil unrest following the presidential election.
Specific concerns arose in states like Washington and Oregon, where hundreds of ballots were damaged or destroyed after officials confirmed that at least three ballot drop boxes had been set on fire. The National Guard remains prepared to respond to any further incidents that may threaten the electoral process.
