National Geographic debuts immersive catwalk inspired by upcoming docuseries

National Geographic showcased exclusive looks by Theophilio and JèBlanc for NYFW.

During New York Fashion Week, National Geographic made an eye-catching splash with its immersive catwalk debut featuring exclusive designs by Theophilio and JèBlanc. The event, called 'Fit For A Queen,' drew inspiration from National Geographic's upcoming docuseries, 'Queens,' which explores female-led animal communities such as lions, brown bears, and elephants. Curated and styled by the talented Sakinah Bashir, the show presented striking patterns and sculptural silhouettes inspired by the animal kingdom from various designers, including JêBlanc, Sergio Hudson, Bohn Jsell, AnOnlyChild, Head of State, Theophilio, Studio 189, Bed on Water, Almasika, and L'Enchanteur. Additionally, all footwear looks were carefully curated by designer Téjahn Burnet.

The catwalk showcase featured holographic images of the female animals examined in the docuseries, accompanied by outfits reminiscent of iconic runway shows from the late 90s. The collection boasted deep color tones, dramatic headpieces, and creative adornments. Notable moments of the show included the opening act, where Brooklyn-based 'plantfluencer' Plant Kween embodied 'Mother Nature.' Wildlife cinematographer Sophie Darlington, who worked on the series, also graced the catwalk wearing a stunning pink Sergio Hudson ensemble.

JèBlanc, a women's fashion brand favored by Doja Cat, presented a custom-designed outfit representing 'water' in conjunction with a hologram of a brown bear from the 'Coastal Queens' segment of the docuseries. Moreover, Theophilio, a Brooklyn-based contemporary fashion brand by Jamaican-American designer Edvin Thompson, created a bespoke ensemble made from tan crushed velvet. Inspired by the magnificent color and fur of a lioness, this exceptional creation featured sleeves reminiscent of an elephant's trunk.

The 'Queens' docuseries, narrated by the iconic Angela Bassett, will premiere on Nat Geo on March 4th. Following its television debut, the series will be available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu starting from March 5th. With the captivating combination of fashion and wildlife, National Geographic's 'Fit For A Queen' catwalk show provided an enthralling glimpse into the upcoming docuseries, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating its release.
