National body nod to 5 new medical colleges in West Bengal, admission likely to start this year

KOLKATA: NEET UG aspirants have a reason to cheer as Bengal is likely to start admission to six new medical colleges - Arambagh, Tamluk, Barasat, Uluberia, Jalpaiguri and Jhargram - from this year. If all goes according to plans, there will be an addition of 600 MBBS seats as each college has an intake of 100 seats

For this academic session, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has already given its nod to five medical colleges, excluding Jhargram Medical College. However, the health officials are hopeful that the NMC officials will be happy with the infrastructure of the Jhargram college and give clearance to it. Narayan Swaroop Nigam, health secretary, said that the inspection for the Jhargram Medical College was held on Tuesday and he hoped that NMC would give the nod to Jhargram Medical College, too.
