Authors Natasha Soobramanien and Luke Williams have been announced as the 2022 Goldsmiths Prize winners for their “marvellous book” titled 'Diego Garcia' at a ceremony on November 10, 2022. This makes them the first co-authors to jointly win the prize in its 10 years' of history.
The novel follows the story of two writers and friends who meet a poet named Diego. The latter is named after an island his mother owned in the Chagos Archipelago; unfortunately, his mother and their community was forced to leave the islands in 1973 due to the British soldiers. The story follows the friends who become a bit obsessed with this episode.
