That’s all for tonight. Thanks as always for following along with us and be sure to check out Donald McRae’s complete ringside report here.
“She was just too fast,” Jonas tells Sky Sports interviewer Andy Scott. “She just beat me to the punch every time. And I was trying to work out a way to get around and get shots off. I was trying to land one big shot instead of putting the combinations together.”
An emotional Jonas then breaks off her assessment to deliver a message to her family and supporters: “Can I just say to all my family and friends that traveled all the way from Liverpool – my daughter is here in the crowd – I apologize for the performance. And I still hope I made you proud. Thank you for spending your money and coming out here, all the fans, to make this a great occasion for female boxing.”
Jonas then continues to look back on the fight, saying: “I just just didn’t work my way around the quick shots. She does pack a little bit of power, to be fair to her as well, which I didn’t expect. I think I was landing, but it was only landing single hard shots, and it’s just not enough when you’re against a great operator like Lauren.”
Then comes the most difficult question of all. Jonas, 40, is asked what the future holds and whether that’s the last time we’ll see her in a professional ring.
“I think emotions are running high right now,” she says. “And [trainer Joe Gallagher] has been asking me to retire for a very long time. And I actually enjoy sitting next to you Andy, and [Sky Sports commentators] Anna [Smith] and Johnny [Nelson] and commentating on everyone else’s performances, so maybe we will have that afterwards. For right now, I’m going to go home and spend some time with my daughter.”
