Naomi Watts has revealed that she has strongly considered getting plastic surgery as she spoke about beauty standards for ageing women.
In her latest film, Goodnight Mommy, Watts’s character gets plastic surgery in an effort to look and stay young. However, her bandaged face leaves her young sons believing she may have been replaced by a monster.
When asked if she’d ever consider going under the knife, The Watcher star, 54, revealed she’s “gotten close” to having a procedure.
She told InStyle: “I’ve done plenty of research, and have gotten close at times, and thought about doing it.
“And that’s not to say that I won’t one day. If I knew I could look great and just like myself but less tired, I’d happily do what needs to be done.”
The Mulholland Drive star added that surgery is a personal choice and nothing to be ashamed of.
She shared: “I don’t think we should ever shame anyone who’s made that choice because everyone should approach it at their own level.”
The two-time Oscar nominee also spoke about her experience ageing in Hollywood and how she was told her career would be over by the time she hit her 40s.
Watts recalled: “My career didn’t really start until my early 30s; that was when Mulholland Drive came out. At that time, I was also being told your career would be over around your 40s.”
The actress is currently starring in Netflix mini-series The Watcher, which is based on the true story of a New Jersey couple, Derek and Maria Broaddus, who move into their dream house only to be plagued by ominous letters.
The seven-part thriller sees the family’s dreams of settling into a new neighbourhood destroyed when a mysterious stalker, called The Watcher, begins terrorising them.
The series also stars Bobby Cannavale, Jennifer Coolidge, Margo Martindale, Christopher McDonald, Isabel Gravitt, and Mia Farrow.
