Nando's is making a huge change to its drinks menu - and diners won't like it

Nando’s is scrapping one of its popular bottomless drinks options as part of a menu shake-up.

At the moment, Nando’s diners can get unlimited refills of fizzy drinks, including Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite Zero.

This costs between £3.25 and £3.45, depending on your location.

But from October, the Peri Peri chicken chain will no longer offer unlimited top ups of classic Coca-Cola.

Customers will still be able to order classic Coca-Cola but will be limited to one glass - after this, they'll only be able to refill sugar-free drinks.

The change comes in line with the government banning free refills of high sugar drinks this year, as part of its strategy to tackle obesity.

The new legislation will come into force from October 1, and targets the sale of products high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS).

Nando's diners will still be able to get diet versions of their favourite drinks after the change kicks in, including Diet Coke and Coke Zero.

A Nando’s spokesperson said: "From this October, customers will still be able to enjoy an ice-cold glass of Classic Coke with their Peri Peri.

"Due to the new Government HFSS legislation we won’t be able to offer classic Coca-Cola as part of our bottomless offering, however customers can still enjoy one glass of classic Coke and then go bottomless on any of our low-sugar and sugar free options for free after that."

Classic Coca-Cola will still be available to all delivery and click and collect customers in cans.

The upcoming change to its drinks menu comes after Nando's quietly hiked the prices of some of its most popular chicken dishes in February 2022.

Some of the price went up by 8%, with increases including 55p added to the cost of a whole chicken. A half chicken and two sides has gone up by 70p.

The cost of ten chicken wings with two sides has risen to £15.45 from £14.95, and a houmous with peri-peri drizzle has gone up from £3.95 to £4.25.

Nando’s said the increases come after it suffered “the most challenging year” in its history following the Covid pandemic.

The chicken chain suffered a £242million pre-tax loss in the year to February 2021 after its restaurants were forced to close for months at a time due to lockdown measures.

The previous year saw Nando’s hit with a £99million loss.

Nando's fans can still knock money off their bill by following a series of menu hacks - we've rounded up ten ways to beat the system.

For example, Nando's offers a loyalty scheme that rewards you in freebies when you collect stamps.

You can also save 50p by making your own Perinaise yourself by mixing mayonnaise and some of the spicy sauces at the condiments desk.

There are over 450 Nando's restaurants in the UK and Ireland.
