A man has been arrested after allegedly driving his ute onto a beach in Newcastle and stripping off naked.
Police were alerted to reports of an "obscene exposure" incident at Horseshoe beach about 9am on Monday, August 24.
Officers were told a man had driven his Hilux onto the sand at the harbour beach, which is dog-friendly, before standing in the nude next to his vehicle.
The Police Transport Command was deployed and officers arrived a short time later. They allegedly saw the 50-year-old man trying to leave Horseshoe beach in his vehicle.
Officers performed a roadside drug test which returned an allegedly positive result for cannabis and cocaine. Police have sent a secondary oral fluid sample for further analysis.
During a search of the man's vehicle, officers allegedly discovered and seized 38 knives and an axe. They also seized what they said was just over 21 grams of cannabis.
The 50-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station.
He was charged with obscene exposure in public, possessing a prohibited drug, having custody of a knife in public, and two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon.
The man was released on conditional bail to face Newcastle Local Court later this week.
