NADINE Dorries will step down as an MP at the next General Election.
The fiercely loyal ally to Boris Johnson has said that she not stand at the next General Election in part because of the "sheer stupidity" of her Conservative Party colleagues.
Making the announcement on her new chat show on Talk TV - which last week featured a bizarre interview with Boris Johnson - Dorries broke into tears.
She said: “Those MPs that drank the Kool-Aid and got rid of Boris Johnson are already asking themselves the question: who next?
“And I’m afraid that the lack of cohesion, the in-fighting, and occasionally the sheer stupidity from those who think we could have removed a sitting prime minister who secured a higher percentage of the vote share than Tony Blair did in 1997 just three short years ago, that they could do that and the public would let us get away with it.
“I’m afraid it’s this behaviour that I now just have to remove myself from."

Through tears, she added: “And so, despite it being a job that I’ve loved for every year that I’ve done it, I’m now off.
“My gosh, I’ve just said it out loud, there’s no going back now.”
Dorries has been the MP for Mid Bedfordshire since 2005 and most memorably served as Culture Minister during Boris Johnson's tenure as prime minister.
Her attempt to privatise Channel 4 attracted a great deal of criticism and has since been abandoned under Rishi Sunak's leadership.
