Mystery surrounds the fate of a man found dead by the side of the road in Dublin

Mystery surrounds the fate of a man found dead by the side of the road in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Gardai were last night continuing to investigate the “unexplained circumstances” surrounding the death of the man, who was discovered on the Old Navan Road in Mulhuddart, Dublin at around 2.50am.

After being found, the man, aged in his 60s and understood to be a foreign national, was rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he was later pronounced dead.

His body has been taken to Dublin City Mortuary, where a post-mortem was due to take place yesterday.

The results of this will determine the course of the Garda investigation.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward to help with their probe.

A Garda spokesman said: “Gardaí are appealing to any person in the vicinity of Blanchardstown Road North, the Old Navan Road and Blanchardstown Shopping Centre between midnight and 3am and observed any activity which drew their attention to come forward.

“Any road users (particularly taxi drivers) or pedestrians who were travelling in these areas at these times who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”

Meanwhile, a probe has been launched after a young woman’s body was found in a house.

Gardai in Co Donegal have launched an investigation after the woman, in her 30s, was discovered dead at a home in Letterkenny at around 6pm on Friday.

It followed a report to both gardai and the emergency services of the death.

The house in which the body was found was sealed off and an investigation launched.

The woman’s body was then removed and taken to the mortuary at Letterkenny University Hospital for a post mortem.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed the details but the woman’s identity or nationality has not yet been released.
