Mysore Silk Certification Explained: How to Check If Your Karnataka Saree Is Authentic Before You Buy

What Makes Mysore Silk a Certified Product

Mysore silk holds a Geographical Indication tag registered under GI Application No. 7, granted by the Government of India. That GI status means only silk produced under specific conditions in Mysore, and processed through the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC), can legally carry the name. The certification is not honorary. It is a legally enforceable designation, and using the name on non-qualifying fabric is a violation of the Geographical Indications of Goods Act, 1999.
