Mykhaylo Mudryk responds to Arsenal transfer links as asking price set for move

Mykhaylo Mudryk has liked a post on Instagram claiming Arsenal are interested in signing him before Thursday's transfer deadline.

The Gunners are reportedly pushing to sign Mudryk, 21, from Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainian forward has shown glimpses of his promise during his blossoming career - scoring twice in 38 league games - and has won five senior caps at international level.

Mudryk is viewed as a future star, with critics labelling him the "Ukrainian Neymar" due to his outstanding skillset. The forward has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal's Premier League rivals Brentford and has already played Champions League football.

The Gunners are on the hunt for a winger after allowing £72million signing Nicolas Pepe to join Nice on a season-long loan. The Ivory Coast international, 27, struggled during his three seasons in England - scoring just 16 goals in 80 Premier League appearances.

It's believed Arsenal want to replace Pepe with Wolves star Pedro Neto. The Portugal international, 22, has dazzled at times, scoring five goals in 31 Premier League outings during the 2020-21 campaign before suffering a serious knee injury. He is fit again.

The Gunners are also thought to be considering submitting a bid for the experienced Wilfried Zaha, who's scored 17 Premier League goals since the start of last season. The 29-year-old has 28 senior caps for the Ivory Coast and 450 club games under his belt.

Yet both players could cost Arsenal a substantial amount of money. It's believed they are weighing-up a move for Mudryk, who would be a cheaper option. Shakhtar will reportedly sell Arsenal the relatively unproven youngster for £25m this week.

Arsenal's rumoured interest in Mudryk has been doing the rounds on social media and has caught the player's eye. As reported by The Metro, the winger liked a post by the 'transfers' Instagram account revealing the speculation. The account has 2.7m followers.

Mudryk has previously expressed his desire to play in the Premier League. When his move to Brentford collapsed last Christmas, he said: "I want to thank Brentford for the offers.

"To end up in the Premier League at 20-years-old is fantastic but the final decision is down to the club president. Had the offer come in a year or 18 months ago, I wouldn’t have given it a second thought - I’d have asked the club to let me go without hesitation.

To end up in the Premier League, aged 20 is amazing. But... I currently have a long contract and all of my thoughts are tied to Shakhtar. I will use all my power to help the side win in all competitions that we are taking part in."

If Mudryk does complete a move to the Emirates, he'll be the second Ukraine international to sign for Arsenal this summer after Oleksandr Zinchenko. The 25-year-old utility player completed a £32m move from Manchester City last month.
