Myanmar earthquake: The science behind the devastating 7.7 magnitude tremor

A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.7 hit Mandalay, Myanmar 's second largest city, on Friday.

It struck at midday and was followed by a strong 6.4 magnitude aftershock. It also shook neighbouring Thailand.
