‘My son is a hero’: Father praises man who stopped gunman in Bondi Beach terror attack

The parents of a man who disarmed a gunman during the antisemitic terrorist attack at Bondi Beach have hailed their son as a "hero."

At least 15 people were killed in an antisemitic terrorist attack at an event called Chanukah by the Sea at the popular Australian beach on Sunday (14 December), police said.

Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, is seen in a video sneaking up behind a gunman, grabbing him and wrestling away his firearm, during the shooting at the popular Australian beach.

The intervention drew wide praise; New South Wales Premier Chris Minns said Mr Ahmed saved countless lives "at enormous personal risk."

His father, Mohamed Fateh Al Ahmed, said: "My son is a hero, he served with the police and in the central security forces and he has the impulse to protect people."
