'My friend wants me to cover up my medical equipment at her wedding - I refuse'

A soon-to-be maid of honour has found herself in an uncomfortable position after the bride-to-be asked that she keep her necessary medical equipment covered up on the day of her wedding.

According to this 22-year-old woman, she was recently diagnosed with type one diabetes, and so has to wear a small sensor on her arm in order to monitor her blood sugar.

She isn't in any way self-conscious about her sensor, and says watching her "strong" grandmother have one herself has really helped her. If anyone asks about it, then she's more than happy to answer any questions and improve general understanding.

Unfortunately, the future bride has taken a different view entirely and has even requested that she wear a cardigan to conceal her sensor on the big day itself.

Taking to Reddit, the shocked maid-of-honour wrote: "We were talking about the wedding one day and she brought up me wearing a small jacket or cardigan to cover the sensor, not wanting to see it in the pictures.

"It surprised me because if I stand at a certain angle you can't even see it. Since the wedding is during the summer and she wants it outside. I know it's going to be really hot and heat can already affect my blood sugar so I don't want to, but she's adamant that I wear one."

She went on to explain that the only other places she put her sensor would be her hip, thigh, or butt, but any of these options would be uncomfortable for her in her work uniform. Moreover, she simply isn't ashamed of her sensor, and doesn't see why she should hide it.

One fellow Reddit user advised: "If she's finding fault with you for having to use life-saving medical equipment she isn't much of a friend."

Another commented: "What is this obsession these days with treating guests like they are just wedding accessories? It's horrible and rude."
