In the UK, vaping has increased in recent years, with many factors contributing to why people are choosing to pick up a vape, rather than a cigarette. The legal age for being able to vape, just like smoking, is still 18, and it is not recommended by health professionals as the NHS says 'they aren't risk-free', but of course, adults can make their own decisions.
One woman took to Mumsnet, however, to say that when her 11-year-old son was at his dad's house, he was vaping - and she was mortified. She said that she didn't care that her ex did, but it made her 'so angry' that he was allowing their son to do such a thing.
She fumed: "My 11-year-old son who is in year seven, sees his dad every other weekend. Well it has come out that his dad vapes now, which because he is a fully grown adult is fine but what I am so angry about is that my ex has bought my son a vape and he regularly vapes when at his dad's house.
"Should I tell my ex that unless he stops my son vaping I cannot send him to his house? What would social services do regarding the situation if my ex refuses to do the sensible and right thing, which knowing him is the more likely outcome to happen?"
Mumsnetters wanted the mum to get the facts straight before reporting her ex, looking for the fuller picture before jumping to any incorrect conclusions - but they were all mortified the 11-year-old was allowed a vape.
One wrote: "Does the vape contain nicotine?
"Not that it would be ok to drag the mist into his lungs even if it didn't, but I think you need to get your facts straight in case you do end up reporting him."
Another fumed: "You are not being unreasonable. Any adult that allows a child to vape is scummy.
"Their lungs are still developing so why would any kind of vape, nicotine, or not be ok?
"There’s a massive problem with vaping in schools at the moment and half of the problem is that parents allow them to do it at home."
Someone else commented: "I would absolutely not be letting my child go to his house."
"Christ he’s desperately trying to be the cool dad isn’t he...tragic", another raged.
