A Romany Gypsy mother has said her children have been forced to leave three schools because of racist abuse. Charmaine Abdul-Karim has made the choice to speak out about the daily abuse and discrimination her community face.
The mother says discrimination has affected almost all facets of her and her family's lives. "It happens in all walks of life. My birth experience was particularly traumatic", Charmaine, from Nantwich, told Cheshire Live.
"One of the biggest things that can happen in a woman's life is to give birth. My experience left me with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after a midwife said to me during a difficult labour where my son's cord was wrapped around his neck 'your kind of people just want to come in, push other people out and steal everything'."
