Murder victim’s remains identified nearly 50 years after being found

Murder

A New Jersey college DNA team has identified Robert Dean Irelan as a murder victim from a cold case dating back to 1979.
Irelan's body was discovered in a shallow grave in Quinton Township, Salem County, in 1979, having suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
Researchers at the Ramapo College Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center used DNA technology and genetic genealogy to identify Irelan.
The victim, believed to be in his late teens or early twenties, lived in Pleasantville, New Jersey, and was known to frequent Atlantic City.
New Jersey State Police are now actively searching for Irelan's killer and are appealing to the public for any information regarding the case.
