Murder suspect named after woman died when car mounted kerb

A murder suspect has been named by police after a woman was killed in a crash.

Rebecca Steer, 22, was killed when she was hit by a car that had mounted the kerb outside Grill Out takeaway, on Willow Street, in Oswestry. She was rushed to hospital after the incident, at around 2.50am on Sunday, October 9, but died from her injuries in hospital.

The Liverpool John Moores University student was described as the "most loving, talented and kind hearted person you could ever wish to know" by her family. She had been studying criminal justice and it has been reported she hoped to join the police.

Stephen McHugh, 27, of Artillery Road, Oswestry, has been charged with murder, causing grievous bodily harm and driving offences. He is due to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court today, on Wednesday, October 12.

A 28-year-old man, from Oswestry, also arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed. Rebecca's family said: "We are all completely devastated by the loss of our beautiful girl Rebecca.

"She always had a smile and a laugh that made everybody love her. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.

"She was the best daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend anyone could ask for. Rest in Peace beautiful girl."
