Murder scene combed by cops for second day as manhunt continues

Detectives spent a second day combing a murder scene for clues as the hunt for a killer continues. A man died near Clarendon Park in Salford, following an incident just after midnight yesterday (Tuesday, December 27).

Police said the victim suffered serious injuries 'consistent with a stab wound'. He died at the scene, and his age has not been revealed.

Officers remained at the scene for a second day, as a murder probe continues. Forensics officers carried out enquiries and a large cordon around the park remained in place. Two police tents have been erected in an alleyway behind some houses near to the park.

Earlier today, GMP confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the man's death. The tragedy was described by the force as being an 'isolated incident'.

In a statement issued yesterday, GMP said: "Shortly after 12am this morning (Tuesday 27 December), GMP were called by colleagues in the ambulance service to a report of a man with serious injuries that appear to be consistent with a stab wound near Clarendon Park in Salford. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial enquiries are underway and no arrests have yet been made."

Detective Superintendent Natalie Dalby, Senior Investigating Officer in the case, said: "We will continue to investigate what we believe to be an isolated incident, with no wider risk to the public. These are the very early stages of what is now a murder investigation, and a team of detectives are working tirelessly to piece together information and evidence.

"We will be following-up a number of different lines of enquiry we have to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. Officers from the Salford district will be providing a visible presence in the coming days for reassurance and we would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience so far."

Anyone with information is being asked to call police on 101, quoting incident 12 of 27/12/2022, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police have also set up a website where pictures, video clips and dashcam footage can be uploaded, which can be accessed here.
