A murder probe has begun after a blaze ripped through a terraced home in Walthamstow killing two people.
Firefighters rushed to the two-storey, end-of-terraced home on Forest Road just before 10.30pm on Sunday. The fire was brought under control by 12.22am.
Two people inside the property were pronounced dead at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Webb, leading the investigation, said: “We believe that there may have been an incident outside the address in Forest Road before the fire started and I am very keen to hear from anyone who witnessed something or perhaps has doorbell or dashcam footage.
“We are working hard to identify the two people who sadly died in the fire, not least so that their families and loved ones can be notified.”
Work is ongoing to identify the victims and inform their next of kin, the Met said on Tuesday.
Detectives believe that the fire was started deliberately and a murder investigation is under way.
The property and half the roof were destroyed.
London Fire Brigade received nine calls about the fire.
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Walthamstow, Woodford, Leyton and Tottenham fire stations attended the scene.
DCI Webb added: “Two people’s lives have been cut short as a result of this fire. If you have heard something or have information relating to the incident please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
