Murder charge after man found stabbed to death in Croydon car park

A 23-year-old has been charged with the murder of a suspected homeless man who was found dead in a Croydon car park.

Kiiran Andrew Hibbert-Gordon, of Sylvan Hill, Upper Norwood will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with the murder of Ion Radu and with possession of an offensive weapon.

Hibbert-Gordon was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday.

Officers launched a murder probe after the body of 46-year-old Ion, a Romanian national, was found in a car park in Homelands Drive, Croydon on Thursday.

A concerned member of the public alerted the police after finding his body unresponsive.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the liver.

Scotland Yard said efforts were still ongoing to find Ion’s living relatives.

Anyone who may have had contact with Ion recently is being asked to get in touch with police, who say they are working tirelessly to build a picture of his life in London.

Anyone with information is being asked to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting 1924/01jun.
