Munich in official warning to Scotland fans as Tartan Army take over

Munich has issued an urgent warning to football fans as crowds flood its city centre.

The Euro 2024 host city’s official Twitter/X profile has posted a call for tourists to leave Marienplatz and spread out elsewhere.

Keen Scotland fans are clamouring for public viewing spots in the city centre, with pictures and videos coming out of the city showing Scotland fans as far as the eye can see.

Tonight marks the highly anticipated start of the Euro group stage as Germany and Scotland go head-to-head at 8pm.

In a tweet the city of Munich's official account expressed concern around overcrowding in the city, as fans gather for drinks at Marienplatz.

The account (@muenchen) wrote on Twitter/X: "URGENT!!! The #Marienplatz is overcrowded. There will definitely be no public viewing there. Please spread out elsewhere in the city! The fan zone is also about to close. Please don't go to the Olympiapark anymore! #uefaeuro2024 #munich #GERSCO".

Munich’s tweet warns that Olympiapark Fan Zone will soon shut its doors. The purpose-built zone closes temporarily upon hitting its 25,000-person capacity.

It has been reported that over 200,000 Scots have flocked to Germany for the big opening match.

Scotland crashed out in the group stages of the previous Italy 2021 Euros.  This year, the team hopes to build on their qualifier momentum to progress further in the Euros 2024.
