Mumbai: Man breaks into BMW, decamps with valuables worth Rs 24 lakh; held

MUMBAI: A man allegedly broke into a BMW and stole cash, gold, and diamond jewelry worth Rs 24 lakh, in the Western suburb of Bandra in Mumbai on Monday.

The police apprehended the suspect, Abhimanyu Arjun Gupta, also known as Rinku, aged 31, who has a criminal history.

The theft was committed on October 7 outside Lilavati Hospital, according to an official.

The victim had parked his car, which contained a bag with cash, gold, and diamond jewelry. When he returned after three hours, he discovered that the car window had been smashed, and the bag was missing, the official explained.

The police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and, with the assistance of technical evidence, identified the suspect. They subsequently recovered valuables valued at Rs 24 lakh, the official reported.

The accused has a history of multiple cases registered against him at police stations in Navi Mumbai, Palghar, and Thane districts. With this arrest, the police have solved three theft cases, according to the official.
