Mumbai: BMC releases its draft voters list with 7 lakh additional names

MUMBAI: Ahead of the upcoming civic polls, the BMC has published draft voters list which has seen a seven lakh increase compared to the 2017 municipal elections.

The BMC said citizens having any objection, like their names being missing or with incorrect spelling, should reach out to the BMC by July 1. The list is available on the BMC website http://electiondata.mcgm.gov.in/Election_Data/BMC%20DRAFT%20VOTERS%20LIST%202022/.

Based on citizens' feedback, corrections in the list would be made and the final list would be published by July 9. Additional municipal commissioner Sanjeev Kumar, who is in-charge of the civic election department, said mistakes can be brought to the notice of the ward concerned either by visiting the assessment department or by emailing the ward office. "Voters can rest assured that changes once made would reflect in the final list that will be published next month," said Kumar.

The draft map, which saw corporator seats rise from 227 to 236, was released on February 1. The nine additional seats increased in island city, eastern and western suburbs. During 2017 civic polls, lottery for reservation of seats was held almost five months before.
