Mum told swollen stomach was the menopause before devastating diagnosis

A woman who was told by doctors that her bloated stomach was the menopause was later given a devastating cancer diagnosis. Caroline Guy, 56, visited her GP in 2019 after suffering with a swollen stomach and was told that it was likely down to the menopause.

But in January 2020, Caroline was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer and given just three or four months to live after the cancer had spread to her liver and ovaries. Despite her terminal diagnosis, the mum-of-two has since been told that she is cancer free in what she describes as a "miracle".

After undergoing gruelling treatment at Nottingham University Hospitals and surgery for a full hysterectomy, Caroline had part of her bowel removed and has now defied all odds.
