Mum taking the bins out told to 'go back in' by police officer after body found

A mum was told to go back inside her house while taking the bins out, after a man's body was found just two doors down the road from her home.

Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service descended on a house on Priory Road as a man's body was found in "unexplained" circumstances. An investigation has now been launched to determine what has happened.

One woman spoke to the ECHO about the moment police appeared in the alleyway behind her house. The mum was at home with her young child when she took the bins out when she left the house a police officer was there to greet her and asked her to go back in.

She said: "I was emptying my bins in the alleyway behind my house and there was just a police officer there. He told me to go back inside. The alleyway was open before but they've closed it off now. The police officer is still there now while they check everything."

One man who lives down the road from the scene told the ECHO that the road is usually quiet and the people that live in the row of houses are typically "normal". He said: "I live down there and all of a sudden there was just police everywhere all at once.

"It's normally a quiet road and the people that live in the houses always seem nice and normal. It's just so weird. It's not nice at all."

Police confirmed earlier today that enquiries are ongoing to identify the man that died as they looked to identify his next of kin. A number of people in the area were confused as they heard nothing before emergency services cordoned off the row of terraced houses.

One woman said: "I heard nothing. All of a sudden there was a load of police cars here and a man down the alleyway. It's horrible."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that officers are currently on Priory Road in Anfield following a report a man’s body had been found at a property on the road. Emergency services attended following the reports at around 10am this morning (Wednesday 13 July).

"A man was sadly pronounced deceased at the property. The man’s death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and notify his next of kin.

"An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out in the local area. A scene is currently in place on Priory Road whilst officers remain in the area.

"Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC quoting reference number 22000498052."
