Mum slammed for wanting to cancel plans with friends to watch England World Cup match

A woman wants to abandon dinner plans with her friends to stay in and watch England v France in the quarter final of the World Cup and the move has divided opinion.

The mum had originally made plans with two other mums she did not know too well but due to England's progression in the tournament she now wants to scrap that idea.

Taking to the 'Am I Being Unreasonable?' forum on Mumsnet, the woman explained that her and her family are pretty big England fans so she had been hoping to watch the game to cheer on the Three Lions who take on France on Saturday.

In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, explained: "Dinner with two school mums next Saturday. Been planned for ages. Don't know them very well.

"Me and my family are England fans and been watching and following pretty seriously.

"Am I being unreasonable to not go on Saturday as its England v France?"

England overcame Senegal in the Round of 16 3-0 to make it through to the Quarter Final where they will play current World Champions France who come off the back of a very strong tournament so far.

The move has divided opinion among those commenting with some agreeing that it is fair as the World Cup is an event that happens every four years while dinner with friends could happen any other time.

But others say she should honour her agreement and go out to dinner.

One person wrote: "I always think it's pretty poor to cancel things late in the day but close to a weeks notice seems reasonable."

While another said: "Cancelling because of Illness or crisis would be understandable. But football ?! I'd be very unimpressed."

On the other hand, some say it is fine to cancel for this reason as one person stated: "Nope I don't think that's unreasonable at all."

While another suggested: "Football rules over everything in our house so anything planned is now out."
