Mum regrets demanding unique baby name spelling after confused nurse botches paperwork

Naming your first child is often one of the toughest decisions that new parents face - as shouldering such responsibility means that couples can agonise over finding a name that feels original and special to them, without being too unusual or rouge.

The last thing any parent wants is for their child to be mocked or ridiculed for their moniker, but unfortunately this can happen when parents choose a name that has awkward connections with another phrase, or a hidden meaning that they were none the wiser to upon choosing.

One mum has revealed that her daughter's seemingly normal name quickly turned into a complicated nightmare as hospital staff misspelt her child's name on her records after getting confused over the parent's unusual request.

After one TikTok user posted a video calling for parents who regret their child's name to share their stories, Katelyn Quintanilla, who posts under the social media handle @ kayteaque, spoke of her own experience on the app.

"I had my daughter at 21. Now there's nothing wrong with having kids that age, but sometimes when you have kids on the younger side, you end up naming them how you would name your baby doll or pet," Katelyn joked.

"I named my daughter Khloe. I still love that name. I named her Khloe with a K as my name starts with a K. I still stand behind that decision. But here's where things get a little weird.

"In some lame attempt at being quirky and original, I ended up giving her two E's, which OK fine, it's not the worst thing in the world, but it gets worse.

Revealing how the hospital blunder happened, the American mum continued: "For a little bit of extra spiciness, I decided I was going to give her an accent - she needed an accent in her name. She needed to be K-h-l-o-e-é, she just needed to be".

"When I filled out her paperwork for her birth certificate I put the accent in there and I made sure to tell the nurse who was taking the information that there was an accent and that it needed to be on there," the woman revealed.

"She had no idea how to put an accent on a letter while using a computer, so instead of leaving it blank or figuring it out... she ends up using an an apostrophe instead...

"So my daughter's name is K-h-l-o-e-é, all because her 21-year-old mum decided that she just needed an accent".

The humorous explanation has inspired thousands of people to flock to the comments to share their own baby name blunders.

Writing in the comments section on the viral clip, which currently has 1.3 million views, one person said: "Lmao that makes two of us, I name my son 'J’Den' aka Jayden... all because I wanted my sons name to be 'unique'".

Another admitted: "My mom tried to name me 'Gisselle' spelled it 'JISSEL' and now everyone pronounces it like Bissel, the vacuum, with a J".

Meanwhile, a third person wrote: "My poor husbands middle name is Donté but for some reason his mom or the hospital misspelled it so it says Donate".
