A mum has created her very own pink palace - by painting every room, wall and even the outside in the distinctive colour. Heather Craig began realising her vision five years ago, telling her initially unconvinced husband that she'd gone for a shade of 'light red' instead.
Now almost every space in Heather's house is pink, a decorative choice her family - including daughters Rosie, seven, and Olive, five - have had to get used to. The mother-of-two says she loved pink long before the shade became trendy with millennials, and that it has been her favourite since she was "a little kid".
“For every room, pink is my starting point and then I introduce other colours on top,” said Heather, 35, who works as an early years practitioner. “My husband wasn’t persuaded at first, but I told him it’s just a light red and he doesn’t even notice it anymore.”
The colour scheme means Heather has taken her home, where she moved with husband Brian Craig, 42, five years ago, back to how it was in the 1960s, replacing the previous drab palette of beige and white. Heather showed Brian a number of Pinterest boards in order to persuade him about her ideas.
“My children roll their eyes at me like mummy’s painting the walls pink again,” said Heather. “Olive was against all the pink at first, I think she was trying to rebel.”
But there are three things Heather would never have at her home. One of these would be a feature wall.
“If it is your favourite colour you might as well use it everywhere,” she said. “Those three blank walls are doing nothing, and it looks unfinished.”
She would also never paint her ceiling white. Instead she uses a colour called lemon salt.
“I would never go down a shade, if you love a colour stick to it, or even go bolder,” said Heather, who lives in Dunfermline, Scotland. “If you knock it back two or three shades you will get a wishy-washy look.”
