The mum of a young boy with autism has spoken about the kind actions of a 10-year-old, who she said "made the family’s day".
The mother of an autistic boy has praised the kind-hearted actions of a ten-year-old who "made the family 's day".
Rebecca Green and her son Karne, 7, who is non verbal, were at a park when the youngster walked up to three children playing close by.
She noticed how one of the kids, a 10-year-old boy called Alistair, started chatting to Karne before giving him a friendly high five.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Rebecca, 42, said how touched she was by the boy's gesture, and that nothing like this had happened before.
Rebecca, from Southport, explained: "Karne finished on the roundabout in the park and Alistair came over and introduced himself. He must have realised he was non-verbal but he was still so nice. People just ignore him because he doesn't talk and because of the noises he makes.
"I said to Alistair thank you because no one has ever really done anything like that. It's just nice for him to be acknowledged. He's just the same as any boy. He just can't talk so he can't verbalise what he's thinking."
Rebecca took to Facebook to tell people how much the interaction meant to her, with her posting in a number of local Facebook groups before Alistair's mum commented on one of the posts. She said: "Yes it was him, thank you for sharing this message."
Karne's dad also commented. He said: "I’m the little man’s daddy and I just want to add a big thank you to your kind son, he has made our day. It’s the little things that mean the most."
One mum met one of these kind strangers in a hotel lift recently, when they went out of their way to show compassion and friendliness to her 10-year-old son, who has autism.
The Mirror previously reported on a similar story, where a mum was touched by the actions of a man her family shared a lift with.
Kate Swenson posted in the Today community to explain she had bundled her family – including her husband, two sons, and a baby – into a lift to go up to their hotel room, and had initially been worried when her husband let another man get in with them.
“Our 10-year-old is autistic and adores lifts, so he is happy flapping and dancing and making lots of noises.
“Just as the door is about to close to bring us to the second floor of the hotel my husband yells out … ‘I’ll hold the door for you!’, and a big, burly, man hops on.
He’s wearing leather from head to toe and even though his hands are full I can see the Harley Davidson logo on his chest. A long white beard completes the look. He’s gruff-looking, I suppose. Rough. Tough. Big. Stoic.
“In my mind, I’m cursing my polite husband for inviting this person into our chaos. We are a travelling circus.”
She added: “Once the man enters, I see my son Cooper’s face light up like a Christmas tree. And the biggest smile spreads across his face.
“I instantly know what’s coming and I hold my breath. I see my husband do the same. We know.
“Cooper takes two steps towards the man and reaches his hand up and runs it through his white beard.
“A belly laugh erupts from Cooper, and he claps and demands a high five from the man.
The couple expect the man to be angry.
“I wait. My husband waits. Cooper waits … handheld outright waiting. Hanging as they say.”
But instead of being angry, the man gave the young boy a smile and returned his high five in a sweet gesture that made the boy’s day.
“Once off the lift Cooper taps my shoulder to get my attention and shows me his iPad. Santa Claus dances across the screen.
“Cooper points to the lift and waves goodbye. And giggles. His face saying it all. He met the big guy. In a lift. And off he dances toward our room.”
