A devastated mum says she has lost her "life savings" after her bank transferred £170,000 of her pension to a scam investment company. Cath Mulalley, 55, worked for the London Fire Brigade for over 30 years before moving with her husband Carl to Nelson, New Zealand in 2008. Four years later and after countless rounds of IVF, they welcomed baby girl Eva.
However, after Carl fell ill and was no longer able to work, the couple decided to organise life insurance and invest some of their savings for their daughter, now aged 10. After completing a form online for life insurance cover in June, Cath received a call from a man claiming to be an investment advisor with Citibank in New Zealand a couple of days later.
She then visited her Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) branch in Nelson, where she claims staff processed the transfer of $325,000 NZD (£170,000) to her new Citibank account without any further questions. However, Cath started panic when the fraudsters phoned to say the money had not been sent - despite her bank account showing as empty, the Mirror reports.
