Mum ends up in tears in Asda unsure if she can afford 55p treat for children

A mum shocked by the cost of living crisis has shared the moment she broke down while shopping as she had to consider whether she could afford to buy her children a 55p treat. The mum took to Mumsnet to say she started crying in Asda while struggling to afford her shopping - having been 'comfortable' three years ago.

The mum, posting under the username Littlemissdan, said three years ago her family had been "comfortable" financially, but they were now struggling to get by with just £30 to spend on a two-week shop, reports The Mirror.

In her post, she wrote: "Is it just me that the whole cost of living thing is getting too much for? I actually had a (very small and no one watching!) cry in Asda when I saw some reduced bakery goods because I didn’t know if I could afford them alongside my entire Smartprice shop.
